Class Actions

Often, a large firm may violate an individual's rights, or an individual may suffer relatively modest monetary damages or loss; however, the same firm routinely and repeatedly violates the rights of not just one individual, but scores of individuals. Collectively, the loss or damages to individuals is substantial. In reality, few individuals will expend the funds, take the time, and go to the trouble to sue the large firm that is violating the law. The result: important laws are ignored, citizens are left with no real remedy, and in fact, a large firm will benefit and profit immensely from the illegal conduct, which effectively rewards the illegal conduct that goes unchallenged.
Class action lawsuits level the playing field. They allow a single individual to challenge a firm's practice and recover damages on behalf of all similarly situated individuals who felt the sting of a large firm's illegal conduct. Instead of one individual facing and fighting a large firm with substantial resources and an army of lawyers, class action suits permit all individuals who were harmed by the firm's conduct to ban together and demand redress for all damages that they as a group sustained. Thus, class actions keep a large firm from keeping money wrongfully obtained from thousands of individuals, hold firms accountable for their actions, force them to change their conduct, and permit the honest individual to have a day in court.
