Adhering to stare decisis, in CBOCS West, Inc. v. Humphries, the Court affirmed that 42 U.S.C. § 1981 – the civil rights law conferring on blacks the same right as whites to “make and enforce” contracts – provided a remedy for retaliation or for a person complaining about a violation of another person’s contract-related right.
